Getting Men Into B.E.D (Body Ecology Diet)

I interviewed my husband, Tomas, to help other couples better understand each other when one, or both, is healing with The Body Ecology Diet (B.E.D.). When I met Tomas in 2011, I’d been on stage 1 of B.E.D. for a year to clear a stubborn systemic case of yeast overgrowth that was causing multiple health issues.

I was nervous that by sharing my body, I’d be re-exposed to yeast and bacteria from his own health issues and need to start my healing process over again.

At the time, I was a single mother working as a therapeutic chef and placenta encapsulationist and studying nutrition each evening in a graduate program. I was busy. Working his health/dietary needs was an added strain I’d do again in a heartbeat for eating the body ecology way brought us into balance (in more ways than one). I wish the same for you and your own intimate relationships.

Lemon Pudding ‘n Pie: Recipe for Body Ecology Diet

The first time I made this recipe was when I celebrated my first Thanksgiving on The Body Ecology Diet (B.E.D.). After weeks of avoiding everything sweet, this recipe was a godsend. I have made only mild quirks to the original masterpiece by Donna Gates and am eternally grateful to her, and others that share what works as they heal their bodies from mild or chronic illness.

Waffle Toppers on The Body Ecology Diet (B.E.D.)

It is easy to reach for a bottle of maple syrup to drizzle on waffles. But what if you are following The Body Ecology Diet (B.E.D.) to heal a yeast, parasitic, or viral overgrowth? A gut healing protocol that excludes sugar, including maple syrup. You may be pleasantly surprised that you can eat waffles on the diet…I am here to tell you, that you can!

Here is my recipe for buckwheat waffles (or pancakes) and below are fun ways to top them…

Instead of serving up your waffles with a side of bacon think about Donna Gates’ food combining principle to help your belly feel better and work better. My buckwheat waffles are made with grain and so they combine best with other starches (squash, millet), plant-based proteins (hemp seeds, almonds), fats (cultured butter, coconut oil), and any kind of vegetable. read more

Pumpkin Pie (stage 1) for The Body Ecology Diet

My 10 year old asked for pumpkin pie for his birthday this year and that’s what we did. The challenge was to make a yummy pie for a kid who can’t eat gluten, nuts, dairy, or flour. As a family, we practice food combining and avoid sugar so this was taken into consideration.

What I came up with was a no-bake pumpkin filling smoothed into a baked pumpkin seed crust. This recipe is free of the most common allergens (i.e. dairy, eggs, nuts, gluten, peanuts, soy) and is a B.E.D.-friendly for those on The Body Ecology Diet. If you have transitioned into stage 2, here is the recipe for my pumpkin pie with almond crust.

I hope that you enjoy my creation. Watching my boy smile as he blew out his candles was worth every minute it took to make this pie a good one 🙂

Coconut Roll-Out Cookies for The Body Ecology Diet

Most coconut flour cookies taste like cardboard and so I was reluctant to create a recipe for one. Yet one day I did and am pleasantly surprised at how they turned out …. they roll out like a dream and are as moist as I could get without the dough falling apart.

This all around versatile cookie is great for anyone healing on The Body Ecology Diet (B.E.D.) and need to avoid grain, refined sugar, and flour. If you are unable to eat eggs, check out my almond cookies.

GROCERY LIST for The Body Ecology Diet (stage 1)

This grocery list is for those on the initial 3-6 months of The Body Ecology Diet (B.E.D.). This cleansing stage is a natural approach to addressing yeast, bacterial, or viral overgrowth (i.e. CandidaGBS+). These are your foods people. If you ready to transition to stage 2, then here is a stage 2 grocery list.

B.E.D. was created by Donna Gates to give the gut a chance to rest ‘n repair. Stage 1 in particular is known to jump-start the body’s ability to be the self-healing mechanism it’s designed to be. The foods below are nutrient-dense, easy-to-digest, probiotic-rich, and gluten/sugar/yeast free. Give your gut a break by practicing food combining 😉
