The Benefits of Bone Stock

poultry-stock-1Bone stock has been used for centuries as a folk remedy with many healing properties. It’s made by simmering animal skin and marrow bones. The result is stock which provides a basis for countless recipes. Or, on its own in a big mug with a pinch of salt added ?

Stock contains collagen, gelatin, omega-3 fats, essential minerals (calcium, magnesium), amino acids and electrolytes.

Bone stock is healing, mineral-rich, and nutrient-dense. It’s main gig is to provide essential building blocks for rapidly growing cells of your gut’s lining. In turn it has the ability to strengthen digestion, reduce inflammation, and boost immunity.

Can help with…

  • Intestinal and digestive disorders (i.e. Crohn’s disease, leaky gut, Celiac Disease)
  • Tooth decay and want to halt cavities and reverse gum disease
  • Inflammatory conditions
  • Autoimmune conditions
  • Arthritis and joint pain
  • Those on stage 2 of Body Ecology Diet or GAPS

Digestive issues

Bone stock is a natural digestive aid and helps you to make hydrochloric acid, which breaks down protein in the stomach. It’s medicinal because it contains minerals that are easy for the body to digest and absorb. If you struggle with diarrhea, bloating, or gas and find most food makes you uncomfortable, you might find stock to be soothing. Drink it every day, every meal!

Bone stock ‘heal + seals’ the gut lining, and prevents a leaky gut. No one wants this condition because when your gut is leaky (porous) then undigested food particles can get into the bloodstream and wreak havoc on tissues, organs and the immune system. This can result in food allergies and intolerance.

Arthritis and joint pain

The cartilage and tendons used in stock make this a food rich in chondroitin sulphates and glucosamine. These naturally occurring chemicals are found in, and around, the cells of our cartilage and in the fluid around our joints. Yet, they can become depleted as we get older. Or, have certain conditions like arthritis and joint pain.

In this way, stock is a #1 anti-inflammatory on the earth. It’s also so easy to make so why spend $$ on expensive supplements for arthritis and joint pain. Esp. when supplements are often made with synthetic ingredients and/or additives.

Calcium-rich

If you don’t eat dairy products due to food intolerance/allergy or simply choose not to – rest assured that bone stock is an excellent source of calcium. In this light, stocks are especially beneficial for a child’s growing body and for mom’s who are pregnant and growing a baby.
