When you start on The Body Ecology Diet (B.E.D.), that once oh so simple task of packing lunch will kick up a notch, or 10 …. not only are you learning how to make food without sugar, flour, yeast, or pasteurized dairy but you’re also learning how to crack coconuts for yck, practicing 80/20, and food combining.
I’ve been packing B.E.D.-friendly lunches since 2010. What used to take forever and give me a near panic attack just thinking about task, is now easier. There is a learning curve! When I first started, my oldest was in elementary and youngest in preschool. My husband, whom I met a year into stage 1, is an independent contractor usually out building most days; he is very active and hungry. I myself travel out of the home a couple days a week for work and I pack a small cooler of homemade food to bring on these long work days.
This recipe is tweaked from Holistic Squid to suit more specific dietary needs (gluten-free, dairy-free, grain-free). My kids love them in their lunchboxes and think they taste better than the frozen kind at the store.

Many of you know that I’m a big fan of food combining. This is something I learned how to do when I was on B.E.D to heal yeast overgrowth and now years later continue to do with each meal. Practicing this one principle each time I eat is one of the reasons why I rarely get bloated or have stomach issues.
Proper food combining happens when you eat foods that are compatible with each other. That go well with each other. In nerdy terms of digestive chemistry the term proper food combining means”what foods to eat with what”.
Different food groups (starches, protein, fruit) require different digestion times and different gastric juices to break ’em down. Sound complicated? It’s not! I’ve been food combining for years. So do my kids 🙂
