Overview of Autistic Spectrum Disorders

Autistic spectrum disorders (ASD) is a group of developmental disorders characterized by varying degrees of impairment in communication skills, social abilities, and restrictive/repetitive behaviors.  At the top end of the autistic spectrum is full-fledged autism, pervasive developmental disorder (PDD) and Asperger’s syndrome.  At the lower end is attention deficit disorder (ADD) and attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) along with dyslexia.

ADD, ADHD, PPD, Asberger’s syndrome & dyslexia are all examples of autistic spectrum disorders.
