Tincture

In addition to turning placenta into capsules, I offer placenta tincture for no additional fee; made by steeping a small amount of dried placenta in high grade alcohol – the final product is strained and placed in a bottle that the client will shake every now and then for a few weeks before straining through cheesecloth into a small dropper bottle that will be left for your convenience. Dosage handout provided at time of service.

This constitutional remedy contains similar benefits to the placenta capsules I prepare for new mothers and while capsules are often enough to balance mothers hormonally, many do also find that the tincture I make is helpful down road for other times of hormonal imbalance (i.e., going back to work, menstruating again, menopause, etc.).

The capsules are generally taken for about 3 weeks after birth because this is average time a hypothalamus takes to resume job producing hormones (in pregnancy a woman’s hormones are produced by placenta). Most moms feel out of sorts more then 3 weeks and enjoy tincture to take.

I asked Tara to make tincture to extend the benefits of my placenta long after my capsules are gone! ~ B.F. Middlesex, VT.

Placenta tincture is shelf-stable because is made with a small amount of steamed/dehydrated placental tissue that is infused with vodka that the client provides and makes available on the day of service. Stored and cared for properly, your tincture can potentially last a lifetime!

You can even have a small amount of the placenta tincture turned into a homeopathic remedy by a local herbalist or homeopath.

I used my tincture long after giving birth to balance hormones during monthly premenstrual syndrome and times of anxiety; as an older woman I now use to prevent hot flashes, palpitations and mood swings.

Placenta tincture can provide hormonal support during significant fluctuations in hormones like after giving birth, having your menstrual period, or during moments of stress, like returning to work and keeping up with visitors. Baby can use tincture to calm nerves, soothe fears, colic, teething trouble (rub into gums), diaper rash (mix into salve), and in times of transition/distress (i.e., starting day-care, separation anxiety).

The tincture will be ready at 6 weeks postpartum and most moms appreciate this because this is when her placenta capsules normally run low. Tincture can step in as a way to extend the benefits that the capsules once provided at a weaker strength.

My sister brought my capsules and tea to hospital. I didn’t need pain medication after my C-section. I wish they lasted forever. ~ RK, Bristol, VT

Tea

Even moms who swear they won’t drink the tea, drink the tea 🙂 So far, everyone says they are glad to have done so. Tea is made from broth used to steam the placenta during encapsulation and steeped with lactation-friendly herbs (spearmint, fennel, etc.) and lightly sweetened with honey.

On the day of service, I pour tea into a disposable cup for mother to sip on after birth. Any remaining tea is poured into ice cube trays and frozen into cubes placed in a labeled Ziploc bag in freezer. Most moms take 1-2 “cubes” after placenta capsules are gone to maintain hormonal well-being and feel calm. You will receive a dosage handout on day of encapsulation.

I am thrilled to sip this nourishing tea at two days postpartum and today is encapsulation day, along with gorgeous prints and tincture, I am resting in bed with baby and tea is what I need. Thank you for this experience. ~ B.L., Burlington
