How I Became a Placenta Encapsulationist

5

Since I was a child, I have felt an incredible pull to new mom’s and babies. When I was 5 years old I walked around my neighborhood looking for pink and blue balloons that meant a baby had been born.

I would knock on their door and give the family a homemade “Mother’s Helper” card; eventually becoming an extended part of their lives.

My mother ran a home day-care and later on a Montessori school, which meant that kids (and parents) were always around. Our home was also the hub of the home birthing community and when I was 6 and 9 years old my younger sister and brother were both born at home … my job was to cut the umbilical cord.

From that point on, I fell in love with pregnant women and new babies and always wanted to be near them.

At a young age, I knew my life work would involve newborns and their families

Later on I earned my degree in Early Childhood Education and went on to become a postpartum doula with DONA. I have given natural birth twice now and loved every minute.

My own pregnancies were challenging due to a rare and debilitating condition known as hyperemesis gravidarum (severe morning sickness). This condition took its toll on me, causing a miscarriage in between my boys, and leaving me fatigued for weeks after birth from anemia and malnutrition.

I did not know how to move through this time successfully…meanwhile my placentas set idle in freezer to be planted in the earth.

I was immediately intrigued by placenta encapsulation

As a Holistic Nutritionist for women during the childbearing years, I understand the value that nutrient-mineral rich foods can have on a woman’s body.

I regularly advocate marrow, liver, bone stock and other healing foods. It makes perfect sense to me for a new mom to ingest such a vital organ, as the placenta, to replenish herself after the hard work of pregnancy and labor.

As a PBi-Certified Placenta Encapsulationist, I am delighted to offer placenta encapsulation and honored to be a part of such an intimate time in the lives of so many new families throughout New England.
