Thanksgiving Gravy ~ Starch-Free & B.E.D. Friendly

Slather this savory, starch-free gravy over meat, mashed red potatoes, or starch-free stuffing for a traditional comfort food and a happy belly. Unlike most gravy, this one does not contain a thickening starch like cornstarch or flour and so it combines well with animal protein.

When I say ‘combines well’ I am referring to food combining; a secret for improving digestive issues. I learned about this when I started on The Body Ecology Diet (B.E.D.) and am glad I did! 10 Foods That Helped My Hyperemesis Gravidarum

There is no one way to prevent hyperemesis gravidarum, a.k.a. HG or morning sickness x 1,000. At least, not that I know of and I have looked high ‘n low to end this horrible misery. I have read every book on the topic and spoke to women who have survived this debilitating nausea and vomiting … including myself who suffered HG 3 times. What is HG? A rare prenatal condition. Duchess Kate had it.

During each of my pregnancies, I made a promise to myself that if I survived the living hell of HG then I would help others get through it as well. So, here I am. More about my story here

This recipe came about when I first started The Body Ecology Diet (B.E.D.) and Thanksgiving came around. I could eat the turkey and vegetables but wanted a scoop of stuffing too. Bread was obviously out and most of the grain-free stuffing I found was made with nuts which didn’t combine well with meat. It wanted to adhere to food combining, a key healing principle on the diet, so I searched for an alternative.

How To Soak Whole Grain: A Traditional Recipe

food-grain-soaking-millet-hblWhole grains have been a principal food for thousands of years and are close to being a nutritionally complete food. They are rich in amino acids, carbohydrates, fiber, minerals, vitamins, and fat.

This ancient food strengthens the body with a warm, slow burning kind of energy and grain tastes pretty good too! We top ours with cultured butter, pesto, and a sprinkling of hemp seeds. 

Unfortunately, grains also contain enzyme inhibitors and toxins – such as phytates, tannins, and goitrogens – that harm the body, especially the lining of the digestive tract; extending from mouth to the anus.
