My Healing Journal: Candida Diagnosis

Journal Entry on September 9th 2010

Today, I found out I have Candida, a.k.a. yeast overgrowth. I’m not to surprised seeing that I have all the symptoms (i.e. cravings, vaginal yeast infections) and the fact it was my idea to ask my Naturopath for test. “Aren’t I going through enough already?” I ask myself. I recently initiated a difficult divorce, started a graduate program, and both my boys start a new school this week.

I have many food sensitivities/allergies which make me less then thrilled to put even more limitations on my already limited diet. Yet, I’ve felt awful for a year now and the effects are wearing me down. So, I’m tightening my bootstraps to walk step by step into my own healing.

Take this quiz to see if yeast overgrowth might be causing you problems.

Time to Change

For the past year, I’ve had a lot of digestive issues; something I’ve never experienced with such intensity in all my life; diarrhea, constipation, vomiting, bloating, gas, and a sour taste in my mouth that comes and goes with frequency.

When I say that I’m bloated, I don’t mean the poof you get after a big meal. I mean a belly that looks 5 months pregnant. I’m not pregnant though. When my belly stretches like this, I’m in such discomfort; often for hours at a time if I eat a bothersome food. I have also had or have heartburn, GBS+, and brain fog. My condition has worn me down to the point where I know a change needs to be made. So, here I am.

Moving Through

Seems like the only way to heal yeast overgrowth is with anti-fungal medicine and avoiding sugar. As for the logistics or an actual diet, I don’t know anything. I need to research this more. I do know that I’m determined to do what it takes to get myself back in balance.

Making the Commitment

I know this journey won’t be easy. Not only am I working a ton, in school, but am also in the midst of becoming a single mom of 2 kids. Life is already full, I don’t know how I am going to do all that needs doing. I’m committed though and will ease into things. I will pace myself with any necessary diet and lifestyle changes.

My hope is that this Healing Journal that I am beginning here, will help others who are also freshly diagnosed with Candidiasis or another gut flora imbalance.
