How To Get A Man Into B.E.D. (Body Ecology Diet)

I want to share how life was for my husband and I in the food and intimacy department while I was on stage 1 of The Body Ecology Diet (B.E.D.). My motivation for writing this is because I think it’s a big deal to invite a man – or woman for that matter – into the most intimate parts of yourself; especially if you have been working on healing your body.

Interview with my husband here.

As a Holistic Nutritionist for those on B.E.D., I hear lots of stories from women who work hard to heal themselves and meanwhile their partner is in the living room downing a bag of cookies; wanting to make love as usual. This can put a real twist in a relationship, and if communication is not well-oiled, cause a lot of tension. Beginning a diet that works often makes people want their partner to eat the same way … beginning B.E.D. is no different. My own eyes definitely opened up when I started the diet and was filled with a desire to walk with more intention in my body. I become more wary about who I romantically shared my body with.

I started B.E.D. in 2010. I was a single mom of two boys and had recently been diagnosed with systemic yeast overgrowth; beginning a new relationship was the last thing on my mind. All I was thinking about was getting better. A year into stage 1, Tomas (my now husband) walked into my life and it was love at first sight. At that point, I was in full swing … doing colonics, drinking green smoothies, and hitting the bulls-eye. I was starting to feel better in my body and could see the light at the end of the long tunnel that I’d been traveling on.

What to do with this handsome, sweet man who wanted to kiss and make out and the whole shebang? I for one panicked. I could see he had health issues that he wasn’t entirely aware of (or dealing with). He had strong breath, dandruff, body odor, and was skinny from years of smoking, drinking, and subpar eating. After all I had been learning about yeast overgrowth, and healing myself of it, the last thing I wanted to do was ‘re-contaminate’ myself by being sexual with someone who had it themselves. It was an awkward time to find words to communicate with him about how I felt. We did figure things out and luckily he has an open-mind and loved me more than his “habits”.

It’s been several years since we met and though I no longer adhere to stage one, I still practice the principles and eat accordingly. So, I decided to interview my husband, Tomas, about this time in our life; when we were getting romantically involved and I was on the strict healing stage of the diet. You can find that interview here
